Christmas Mantel

I know it's a little late, better than never ;)
Here are a few pics of what my Christmas mantel looked like this year!

Our stocking holder train
I love this thing!
I got it four years ago at Target no less ;)
after Christmas sale for $15
This thing in no joke,
SUPER heavy iron,
your stocking won't fall,
but if you drop one
WATCH YOUR TOES!!
The mercury glass votive holders I got from Target this year
ONLY .99 each!!

monogrammed stockings from PB $15
The key is to order them right around Thanksgiving
when they offer FREE MONOGRAMMING
and FREE SHIPPING on all holiday items!!
So far I have been ordering them every year for the past 3 years ;)

Does anyone remember Illuminations the candle store?
Unfortunately, they closed :(
But that is where I got those great tree candles
(that i don't dare burn)
They are just so pretty!!
I have these small and large set of pine cones
on the other end of the mantel.

The hurricane jars are a reuse from here
I had picked up these natural pine cones
with the yummy cinnamon smell to fill them with!

Hope everyone had a holly jolly Christmas and
best wishes for a wonderful New Year!

On a side note:
I am clearing out my Etsy shop!
TODAY ONLY
Use code CHRISTMAS30
for 30% ALL ITEMS
These items will be gone after today,
I am working on new things for the NEW YEAR
so stay tuned!

Cheers,
Erica

'Tis The Season...

To be CRAFTY!
So I finally finished the scrabble ornaments I talked about here

I really like how they turned out!

Even our little pooch Lucy got one!
Actually, once I got started I wanted to do one for everyone I know ;)

I ended up using twine I had and just hot gluing the letters together!
Super easy and fun project for a rainy day :)
Plus, my daughter was able to help me
and get some practice on her letters!!

Holly Jolly,
Erica

Chuck the Chuck?!... & Giveaway :)

Yesterday we made a trip to our BRAND NEW
Whole Foods MEGA-store for the first time!
In the wine section there was a HUGE display of a new wine variety
THREE WISHES
which comes in Chardonnay, Cabernet & Merlot
The campaign slogan they are using is
"CHUCK THE CHUCK"
{referring to Trader Joe's Charles Shaw variety}
because it is selling for only $1.99 a bottle!

We decided to give the Chardonnay a try
and it is surprisingly tasty!
Very light, crisp and fruity
{close to a Pinot Grigio}

BUT...
I was a little disappointed
that such a GIGANTIC supermarket
would be targeting a small grocery store?!
{Do I sense a rivalry here?!}

I am sure just based on the $1.99 price of
THREE WISHES
people would still buy it!
Taste will determine whether they buy it again ;}

If I had to compare it to
TWO BUCK CHUCK
I would say they were both worth the price,
not amazing, but not horrible!
You can't have super high expectations
for a wine under $2!
Right?!

So, on that note...
You are probably anxious to hear about the giveaway, huh?!!
Well, in the SPIRIT of the HOLIDAY
I have decided to give ONE lucky winner a
$10 GIFT CARD
{Hey, that's like 5 bottles of wine!!}

MOVING!

Ughhhh....
boy do I hate moving!
Packing isn't so bad,
it's the purging and sorting and the UNpacking
that I strongly dislike!!

On a positive note,
 we are moving only about a mile away
and it gives me a chance to try out some new decorating ideas!!

I just got the new Ballard Designs catalog...
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything for the holidays!!

I am really excited to get decorating in the new place
and hoping to find some great new pieces
for our new home :}
Here is some inspiration I will be on the look out for...
I may need one of these ;}

For my love of Poppies...

On the look out for one of these...

I know exactly where I would put this...

Need to get organized...

And of course,
I can never pass up a cute pear...

I will keep you posted on the status of my finds,
but for now this is about how much we have packed...

Two weeks to go,
Erica

Halloween Mantel under $25

I am normally not one who goes all out with decorating for the Halloween,
but this year I thought some nice mantel decor would be fun and festive!
Keeping my budget in mind, I wanted to stay under $25!!

Here is what I came up with...
Everything
{except the mirror, which I had}
was bought at the Dollar store or the Target dollar bins!

I decided to spray paint the wreath all BLACK!
I think it gives it a spooky look ;}

The hurricane jars were made with
a vase and candlestick holder from Dollar Tree!
I found this great idea from Decor Chick
where she can show you how to make your own!!
And of course what doesn't say Halloween better than candy corn
to fill those chic hurricane jars ;}

I was noticing a lot of PURPLE in the Halloween decor out there this year,
so when I found the glittery Trick or Treat sign,
I had to have it!

I picked up the mini pumpkins on our family trip
to the pumpkin patch :}
I haven't been able to find my tea light candles,
but I was hoping to do this with them!

And the grand total...
$24.50
How did I do?

On another Halloween note,
we finally decided on costumes for the girls...
Cadee is going to be our girly girl giraffe ;}
and Aria the bouncing bumble bee!
{pics coming soon}
More Halloween fun over here!

Happy Halloween,
Erica

Garage Sales!!

Since this is my very first post for Decor on a Dollar I wanted to share with you one of the great places I like to find those "one-of-a-kind" pieces!!

This past weekend was jam packed with garage sale hopping!
A nearby town was having a community garage sale {which are the BEST} and we found great little treasures around every corner :}

Here are a few of my favorite finds:
Starting at the top left:
*Never used, 6x8 ft piece of carpet.
We are planning to use this for our daughter play area
in the garage! PERFECT!
*The cutest BEE broch!
I just had to have it, I am a little obssesed with
birds, pears, and bees!
*The Radio Flyer Ride-on Car was FREE!
I know crazy right, but our neighbor was just giving it away,
so of course we wanted it, my daughter loves it!
Bottom left:
*YES!! A vintage wooden skate board!
This is actually a gift for my Dad,
he used to have one just like it as a kid and I think he will love to have it!
*Cast-Iron mini bird bath, another must have, especially since it already has that great distressed, rustic look!
*This was just a fun find for my daughter, I am calling it an "astro ball" because I am not really sure what it is called!
{Anyway, my husband always wanted one of these as a kid, so he might be playing with it more than the kids... just kidding honey ;}

Do you have a favorite garage sale find?

Happy Hopping,
Erica
